“Strongest” has been used widely and vaguely. It may refer to either the total amount of mg within a pack (total mg per pack), the amount of mg contained in individual portions (mg per portion) or it may simply be a marketing term with no backing evidence.
Stronger Than Expected - or Not at All!
When referring to CBD, ‘strongest’ rarely applies to the ability to make users feel intoxicated. Because CBD is non-psychoactive, the potential for an enhanced high does not exist. In reality, when comparing CBD, the term ‘strongest’ usually refers to concentration; specifically, how much CBD is included in each unit (per piece) and how much CBD exists throughout the item itself (total mg).
Many people do not understand this difference. A pack that is labeled strong edibles UK 1000mg can contain:
- A 1000mg total of CBD dispersed over several units of CBD (thus less mg per unit),
- Or 1000mg of CBD concentrated into fewer units of CBD (which equates to more mg per unit).
As we can clearly see here, although both packs bear the same headline figure, the actual strength per piece is vastly different. As a result, understanding mg per piece (and not just the total amount displayed at the top of the packaging) is considerably more important than everything else combined.
Different Ways of Measuring "Strength"
There is a big difference in measuring “strength” with respect to weed edibles UK and CBD-based edibles. When we measure the potency of THC-based edibles, it directly relates to the level of intoxication caused by the edible. In contrast, when measuring the strength of CBD-based edibles, “strength” is measured differently because it relates to:
- Bioavailability (how much of the CBD is absorbed by the body and thus how effective the CBD will be); this can vary depending upon formulation,
- Consistency of effect (for individuals who have built-up tolerance, higher concentrations can provide noticeably greater levels of relaxation/calming),
- Duration (higher concentrations may cause longer periods of feeling relief, but again this is dependent upon the individual).
- Purpose-built dosing (individuals who use CBD for routine purposes require a reliable/consistent dose of higher mg rather than having to guess across multiple lower-mg pieces).

How to Identify Truly Potent Products
In general terms, within the present day UK cannabis edible space:
- Most standard potency CBD edible products contain approximately 10-25mg of CBD per unit;
- Products considered stronger will likely have concentrations of at least 25-50mg of CBD per unit;
- Any product greater than these amounts per unit, but made from a very strong edibles UK 1000mg type pack, will certainly be classified as a truly potent product — something you may want to ease into if this is the first time you are experiencing such a high dose.
Choosing the Right Potency Level for You
Potency is subjective — what serves as an adequate level of potency for a consistent consumer may be excessive for someone who has never consumed CBD.
